Enjoy the Highland and Islands Music and Dance Festival from a Scottish Castle by Dipika Patel
If you are looking for an unusual event to attend on a break, look no further than the Highland and Islands Music and Dance Festival in Scotland.
Centred around Oban, the event sees the best Scottish musicians and dancers come together over a weekend to put on a staggering array of performances for all those who attend.
And what better way to make the weekend a truly memorable one than by staying in one of the self catering castles located in the area?
You can enjoy the revelry during the day and into the evening before returning to your very own castle to settle down for a good night's sleep.

The Highlands and Islands Music and Dance Festival runs from April 28th to May 1st in 2011, allowing you to enjoy a long weekend of fun and frivolity.
Since its inception in 1984, the event has grown substantially and now welcomes over 1,100 participants to more than 125 competitions throughout the course of the festival.
One of the highlights not to be missed is the Concert of Champions, where a number of prize winners will take to the stage together to perform a selection of musical pieces, many using traditional instruments.
If you want to get a taste for some Scottish music ahead of the big concert, check out the Highlands and Islands Fiddle and Accordion Masters, where you can watch some of the musicians who have picked up awards over the year for their talents on the fiddle or accordion.
Meanwhile, the Scottish Area Highland Dancing Finals mark the culmination of a year of intense competition between various groups.
At the festival, you will be able to see which is victorious this year, as well as enjoying all the performances from the groups hoping to be named the champions.
Another must-see event is the Festival Parade. The streets of Oban will be taken over by a dancing procession of colourful floats and musicians.
Make sure you check out the parade route ahead of time to ensure you can get a good spot from which to observe all the revelry.
And when the music and dancing is over, you can return to your castle and enjoy some of the many other attractions the Scottish Highlands have to offer.
